Ribbon Cutting: Costco Warehouse
Yorkville welcomed its newest retail destination with incredible enthusiasm as Costco officially opened its doors on November 12. Early that morning, hundreds of residents lined up outside the new warehouse, creating an energetic atmosphere long before the first customers entered.
The celebration began with a ribbon cutting ceremony featuring Mayor John Purcell, members of the Yorkville City Council, the Yorkville Area Chamber of Commerce, and Costco leadership. Their presence underscored the strong public‑private partnership that helped bring this major development to the community.
Mayor Purcell shared his excitement about the overwhelming turnout and expressed gratitude for the hard work of city staff throughout the project. He highlighted the community’s clear demand for a retailer like Costco and emphasized the many benefits the store will bring to Yorkville—from expanded shopping options to increased local revenue.
Costco Warehouse Manager Steve Ftacek joined the mayor in acknowledging the efforts of the nearly 300 employees hired for the new location. In just 11 days, the team fully stocked the warehouse in preparation for opening day, demonstrating impressive dedication and teamwork.
The new Costco brings with it a variety of on‑site services for members, including a tire center, optical department, and gas station, enhancing convenience for both Yorkville residents and visitors.
